The Wellbeing Monitoring Framework will build on the work done in other jurisdictions, such as the projects listed below, and will ensure WA data can be compared to other Australian states, as well as national and international data.


State reports on children and young people's wellbeing


Victoria – Victorian Child and Adolescent Monitoring System

Department of Education and Early Childhood Development

A monitoring framework that provides a comprehensive overview of the way in which the service system, the community and the family all interact to determine the wellbeing of children.


Tasmania – Kids Come First

Department of Health and Human Services

An outcomes-based monitoring framework with a database that allows analysis at a locality/suburb level for children from birth to age 17 for a number of indicators.


South Australia - Look out for young South Australians

The Council for the Care of Children

A report developed in 2007 as a benchmark report for five domains of the lives of children and young people.It sets a baseline in each of the domains, against which the circumstances of children can be monitored in the future.


Queensland – Snapshot

Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian

An annual report of data from a range of sources that provides a contemporary representation of the status of children and young people in Queensland, and identifies where more work needs to be done.


New South Wales – A picture of NSW children

Commission for Children and Young People

An online data book of statistical information that describes how children and young people in New South Wales are faring. It examines demographic characteristics, health and wellbeing, children and crime, economic wellbeing, childcare and education, children in communities and harm and injury.

Western Australia – WA Aboriginal Child Health Survey

Institute of Child Health Research

Undertaken in 2000-01, this is the largest study in Australia of Aboriginal child health and development. It examines health, social and emotional wellbeing, education and the diverse needs of family and community.


National Data on Children and Young People


ARACY Report Card

A report by the Australian Research Alliance for Children and Youth that draws together statistical data to provide a comparison between children and young people in Australia, Aboriginal Australia and overseas.


Australian Early Development Index

Produced by the Australian Government and the Centre for Community Child Health, the AEDI is a national picture of children's health and development. It pinpoints strengths in the community as well as what can be improved


Overcoming Indigenous Disadvantage – Key Indicators 2009

A biennial report by the Productivity Commission on the key indicators of Indigenous disadvantage among both children and adults. The most recent report is a comprehensive collation of statistical information over time.


Telethon Institute of Child Health Research

TICHR is one of Australia's largest medical research centres and carries out multidisciplinary research on the health and wellbeing of children and young people across Australia.


Australian Bureau of Statistics

The ABS collects a wide range of statistical data from across Australia, including data on children and young people.


Australian Institute of Health and Welfare - A Picture of Australia's Children

This 2009 report is a national statistical report on children aged 0-14 years, covering a number of statistics relating to child wellbeing.


National clearinghouses


Closing the Gap Clearinghouse

A collection of information looking at what programs and services work to overcome Indigenous disadvantage in Australia.


Australian Family Relationships Clearinghouse

AFRC is an information and advisory unit focused on the enhancement of family relationships.

Communities and Families Clearinghouse Australia

CAFCA provides assistance with accessing evidence relating to the planning and delivery of services to children and families in disadvantaged Australian communities.
