The Commissioner is consulting with children and young people aged 12-21 on their experiences of family separation and their ideas to improve support for young people, services, and the family law system.
Feedback will be kept anonymous. Any findings will be published in December 2018 and provided to the Family Court of WA and the Australian Law Reform Commission’s national review of the family law system.
Young people can take part by submitting their story in confidence to the Commissioner, participating in an interview or completing a survey. Parents will be contacted to provide consent for the young person to participate, depending on the age of the young person (under 18) and which option of consultation they choose. If you know a young person who may wish to participate, they can send an SMS to 0434 327 803, telephone 1800 072 444 or email firstname.lastname@example.org and they will be contacted by the Commissioner's team.
Please note that the Commissioner is only consulting with young people, not parents or other adult extended family members. Parents or other adults can provide their views directly to the Australian Law Reform Commission by 13 November 2018.
All contributions will be kept in confidence by the Commissioner’s office and no young people will be identified in the consultation findings.
