Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse
Since the release of the Royal Commission’s Final Report in 2017, the Commissioner for Children and Young People has strongly advocated that governments and leaders are ambitious and unflinching in their approach to accepting and implementing the recommendations made, acknowledging where we need to do better to protect and respond to children and young people and to resource these efforts accordingly.
In June 2018 the WA Government accepted, or accepted in principle 289 of the 310 recommendations applicable to the state government. The Commissioner is currently developing a monitoring process for key recommendations impacting children and young people with a view to monitoring the implementation progress of these recommendations from 2021.
The Commissioner has many areas of work in progress directly relevant to the some of the Royal Commissioner recommendations: child safe organisations, child friendly complaints mechanisms, harmful sexual behaviours in children and young people, oversight of services for children and young people, and advocacy and support.
