Michelle Scott was appointed Western Australia’s first Commissioner for Children and Young People on 7 December 2007.
Children and young people from WA were involved in interviewing and selecting their Commissioner. The Commissioner is officially appointed by the WA Governor for a term of 5 years.
Michelle has a degree in Social Work and has spent a large part of her working life in government (local, state and federal) and in the not-for-profit sector. Much of her work has been with families and community organisations who advocate for improved social services and programs for families.
She has been a member of the Mental Health Review Board and Senior Member of both the Immigration Review Tribunal and the Social Security Appeals Tribunal.
Between 2002 and 2007, Michelle was Western Australia's Public Advocate, protecting and promoting the rights of people with decision-making disabilities.
