Commissioner to visit Goldfields over Youth Week 2017
The Commissioner started a three-day visit to Laverton and Leonora today to meet and speak with children, young people and the organisations and individuals that work to support their wellbeing.
Mr Pettit said he was pleased this visit was being undertaken during 2017 Youth Week as one of the week’s important messages was that young people should be given the opportunity to be heard on issues that affect their wellbeing.
“I am looking forward to visiting these remote areas of the Goldfields and hearing what children and young people have to say about their community and the things that support their lives,” Mr Pettit said.
“I have heard about some positive community programs in these towns and I am ken to see that positive change can be sustained; involving children and young people in this discussion is very important.”
The Commissioner will meet with children from local schools and programs as well as staff from local service providers.
The visit is part of the Commissioner’s regular regional visits program. Reports on previous regional visits can be downloaded on the Regional WA resources page.
