Strengthening lives through Reconciliation Week

The Commissioner is pleased support the Department of Aboriginal Affairs’ Street Banner Project, a Reconciliation Week initiative that promotes positive community action via 430 banners across Perth and other regional locations.

The banners incorporate this year’s important reconciliation message ‘Let’s Take the Next Step’, and artwork from Justin Martin, a Western Australian Aboriginal artist.

“Aboriginal children and young people have consistently told my office that reconciliation and recognition of culture are very important to their positive sense of wellbeing,” Mr Pettit said.

“This year’s theme reiterates that although we have come a long way, we must continually strive to increase our mutual respect and understanding of how we can work together to strengthen the lives of Aboriginal families and children.”
