Commissioner's Update - February 2020

Last week I was honoured to publish the findings for my first Speaking Out Survey, the most comprehensive survey of children and young people’s views ever undertaken in WA.

Fieldwork was completed by my staff and I last year, with 4,912 children and young people from 125 schools across the state participating. What better way to find out what’s most important to young Western Australians than to hear directly from so many? Most children and young people reported that they feel healthy, they have the material things they need and that they like school. However mental health, perceptions of safety and feeling connected are areas of concern.
