Celebrating Harmony Week with food, song and dance

I enjoyed a very warm welcome to Piara Waters Primary School on Thursday to help staff and students celebrate Harmony Week.

The visit included the opportunity to meet with local students and their families before enjoying a shared community lunch and watching students perform Bollywood dancing.

I really enjoyed speaking to students from many different backgrounds who told me about their interests, particularly sport, and their different cultures.

Many students spoke about their positive experiences in moving to and settling in Western Australia and the opportunities this has provided for their future.

It was a pleasure to celebrate Harmony Week with students and acknowledge the contributions people from culturally diverse backgrounds make in our community.

I provided the school with a class set of the new publication, This Is Me, which contains profiles of 15 young West Australians from culturally diverse backgrounds.
