Here I Am: Stories from young everyday leaders in Western Australia
December 2022 marked 15 years since WA first appointed a commissioner to provide an independent voice for our state's children and young people. To mark this milestone the Commissioner wanted to create Here I Am to showcase the incredible stories of 15 everyday leaders who are making a difference in their communities.
An important part of the role as Commissioner is to listen to children and young people across Western Australia and advocate for their views to be meaningfully considered by community and government decision makers.
Children and young people aged under 18 years represent almost one quarter of the total population of Western Australia and contribute enormously to it. They have important ideas about what they want to see in their lives and what change is needed.
The Commissioner hopes Here I Am will encourage decision makers and the broader community to seek the views of children and young people and involve them in decision making on important matters.
The Here I Am Teacher Resource has been developed for Upper Primary, Lower and Middle Secondary years to encourage teachers to use Here I Am stories within the classroom.
A limited number of additional hard copies of Here I Am are available for schools as class sets. Please email info@ccyp.wa.gov.au or telephone (08) 6213 2297.
